Research and Observation

Participants 2-3 YEARS OF AGE NEEDED!

Who and what is Engenium?

Engenium LLC is a locally owned and operated product engineering and design research firm that creates better products and consumer outcomes for its customers.

User Study:

Engenium’s client is validating the efficacy of a child safety doorknob mechanism. To validate the design’s ability to prevent unauthorized access while remaining functional for adults, Engenium is recruiting children between 24 and 36 months of age to interact with the product.

This is an observational study. Your child will be asked to interact with a pre-installed safety knob for 3–5 minutes. This will be followed by a second interaction where the safety mechanism is deactivated to establish a baseline for standard knob operation.

Safety and Risk:

This study involves interaction with standard household hardware in a controlled environment. While the equipment is designed for safety, the unpredictable nature of toddler interaction means there is a minimal risk of minor pinching or bruising. To ensure the child's well-being, a parent or legal guardian must remain in the immediate vicinity at all times. The session will be terminated immediately if the child shows signs of significant distress.

Consent:

Your submission indicates that you are the parent or legal guardian of a child within the eligible age range and that you have decided to volunteer your child as a participant for this study. You acknowledge that you have read and understood the information provided above and below.

Compensation:

After acceptance, completion of the observational session, and submission of required anthropometric data, participants will be sent a $50 USD incentive via Zelle or similar transaction platform. Participants are solely responsible for any tax reporting or liabilities.

Study Requirements:

To ensure accurate data correlation, the study requires the following:

  1. Physical Measurements: Record the child’s height, weight, and hand size, as well as a circumferential grip measurement using a specialized testing knob.

  2. Observation: Participants may be observed and video-recorded throughout their product interactions.

  3. Documentation: To enter the study, the parent/guardian must apply and sign a study waiver.

  4. Data Privacy: Upon completion, participant videos and measurements will be submitted to Engenium. Engenium staff will anonymize the videos and data for use in analysis and observation reporting.
